BEFORE A TEST
☐ Review summary sheets
☐ Review flashcards
☐ Complete 3 practice questions that are very different from one another
☐ Get a good night’s sleep
☐ Eat a meal and drink water
☐ Bring all required materials
☐ Take a deep breath and trust your preparation
Why This Works: Completing a few practice questions before a test helps activate problem-solving pathways in your brain. When you see similar questions on the test, your brain already has a starting point. Remember: confidence comes from preparation.
STUDY TIPS THAT WORKED FOR ME
Flashcards & Summary Sheets
Creating flashcards and writing your own summary sheets are simple but highly effective ways to improve understanding and strengthen long-term memory.
Active Recall & Consistent Review
Reviewing material regularly and testing yourself through active recall helps build lasting knowledge. Short, consistent study sessions are far more effective than last-minute cramming.

Life Advice
Advice I’d Give My Younger Self If I could sit down with my high school self for a conversation, these are some of the things I would say:
-
You do not need to have your entire future figured out right now. Life is a journey of learning, exploring, and discovering who you are. Your grades are important, but they do not define your worth or your potential.
-
Confidence is built by doing things that feel uncomfortable. It does not magically appear first. Take opportunities, even when they feel a little scary. Growth often happens outside of your comfort zone—be brave, and do it scared.
-
Ask questions. The students who learn the most are often the ones who are willing to admit when they don’t understand something. Stay curious and never be afraid to learn something new.
-
Be curious about the world and about yourself. Take classes that genuinely interest you, even if they do not fit perfectly into a career plan. I truly believe everyone should take at least one psychology or sociology class—you learn so much about human behaviour, relationships, and the world around you.
-
Make the most of your university or college experience. Join a club, meet new people, pursue your passions, and find ways to express yourself. Some of the most valuable lessons happen outside the classroom.
-
Learn to enjoy your own company. Being comfortable spending time alone is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. Love yourself, and learn to appreciate who you are becoming.
-
Choose friends who support your growth, celebrate your successes, and encourage you to be your best self. It is okay to let go of friendships that no longer align with the person you are becoming. Not every friendship is meant to last forever, and that’s okay.
-
Don’t compare your journey to someone else’s. Everyone moves through life at a different pace, and there is no single timeline for success.
-
Every failure, rejection, or closed door is simply redirection. Some of the opportunities I am most grateful for happened because another plan did not work out. We all make mistakes—I am happy to tell you about the hundreds I’ve made. Each one taught me something valuable.
-
Sometimes moving away from home, travelling, or studying abroad can be one of the best ways to discover who you are as an individual. New experiences challenge you, expand your perspective, and help you learn more about yourself and the world.
-
Remember that seeking support is a strength. We all benefit from having people who help us through challenges, whether that is a counsellor, mentor, friend, or family member.
-
Take care of your physical and mental health. Sleep, movement, exercise, and healthy habits have a bigger impact on your success and happiness than you may realize. Try something new, like joining a local 5 km race or community event. There is something special about the way people come together to encourage each other, celebrate progress, and share experiences.
-
Remember that you are in control of your mindset. The way you choose to approach challenges, opportunities, and everyday moments can shape your experience of life.
-
Be kind to yourself. You are learning, growing, and figuring things out just like everyone else.
-
Trust yourself. You are capable of more than you think.
-
You do not need to follow the exact same path as anyone else. Your journey is your own. Some of the best opportunities in life come from staying curious, working hard, being open to change, and trusting yourself along the way. Love yourself. Believe in yourself. And never stop learning.
